Ariel has been writing and performing music on and off for the last decade, but only recently moved from a folk singer-songwriter to an electronic pop sound, as evident in her single Drowning and soon to be released album. Her musical inspiration ranges from Ellie Goulding and Robyn to Neko Case, Sarah Harmer, and Kathleen Edwards. In recent years, Ariel has written and performed folk music primarily as a solo artist, but often teamed up with local musicians, collaborating on each other’s songs. Ariel has been writing since she was a young teen and has the ability to create personal pieces that speak on a variety of issues. She has a passion for environmental sustainability and conservation, which she has been pursuing as a career. There is a beautiful synthesis of hard and soft that plays out in many of Ariel’s songs. Heavy subject matter is lifted to blend seamlessly with the sweetness of her voice and melodies.
Many of the songs on the new album emerged from a difficult time of heartbreak and transition, which is a relatable subject to many listeners. However, many songs on the album cut through this darkness with a resounding expression of hope and the anticipation in finding oneself again.
